What is Chiropractic

A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.

What should I expect at my initial consultation

At the initial consultation, the chiropractor will review in detail the history of the complaint along with your past relevant medical history. After this, a full physical and functional exam with be undertaken to determine the exact nature of the dysfunction. This session will take between 40-50 minutes. Treatment for the injury may be undertaken if time is available.

What should I expect at my second visit

During your second visit, the chiropractor will review your case with you and report the findings and diagnosis to you. During this time, any questions and concerns can be addressed. Following the report of findings, the treatment will be undertaken. This session will take 30 minutes.

What should I expect at subsequent visits

These sessions are much shorter than the initial session (up to 30 min), whereby the primary focus is now on the treatment plan created to allow for the best possible recovery. Each treatment is tailored to your personal case and will consist of any or all of the following: ART, acupuncture, chiropractic manipulation and rehabilitative exercises.

I am afraid of needles, is acupuncture still for me

Many of our patients are slightly apprehensive of needles but still enjoy the benefits of acupuncture. Acupuncture needles are very different from the jabs that one would receive at their medical doctor. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and thus almost painless when entering the body. Most patients do not even know when the needle is in (or out), that is how painless it usually is. Please speak to the chiropractor about your concerns and a decision can be made with regard to the use of acupuncture in your treatment.
